Experiential Learning
Evaluate
Experiential learning activities are characterized by three essential components. In order for participants to truly gain the benefits of experiential learning, it is critical that facilitators identify and incorporate these elements into activities.
Activity
- The participants experience the activity through direct, hands-on participation.
Reflection
- The types of questions used in the activity are open ended, and invite further discussion and interaction among the participants.
- Participants discuss the experiences they had in doing the activity.
- The results of the activity are discussed by the participants.
- There was evidence of active reflection in small or large groups.
Application
- Connections between the activity and real-world examples are made by the participants and/of the facilitator.
- The outcomes of the activity are applied to one or more independent situations.
